Through these many programs and services JFCS significantly enhance the lives of our most isolated, vulnerable seniors. JFCS recognizes the needs of this population of the frail, vulnerable and homebound elderly and provide specialized, targeted services provided by our knowledgeable, experienced and caring professionals.

JFCS offers the following services to seniors and their families and/or caregivers:

  • Care Management – evaluating the need through in-home assessments and linking seniors to the appropriate support to keep them safely in their own home is the cornerstone of our efforts.  JFCS has employed trained care managers who visit people in their homes, prepare comprehensive assessments and then develop strategies to enhance or improve their quality of life.

  • Kosher Meals on Wheels – meals are delivered to homebound seniors, providing nutritionally balanced meals each week and allowing clients to feel safe in their home while enjoying face to face contact and conversations, while enabling volunteers the opportunity to check on a seniors’ health status as well as conditions in their home.

  • Friendly Visitors – our Friendly Visitor program matches seniors with volunteers that provide companionship through weekly visits.   Friendly Visitor volunteers enjoy one-on-one relationships while alleviating loneliness and isolation with important human contact.

  • Telephone Reassurance – volunteers make weekly calls to homebound seniors keeping them connected to the community and giving peace of mind to seniors who live alone.

  • TeleCare Connection - allows Volunteers and Care Managers, through the use of computers, cameras and the internet to have telehome visits with seniors and isolated clients.  These Skype visits help us monitor their well-being, decrease isolation and help them safely remain in their homes as well as connecting them to online resources. This innovative project also enhances seniors’ connections with family and friends.  IPads or desktop computer are provided by JFCS.

  • Holocaust Survivors* – direct assistance provided to those in need of meals, emergency financial assistance and home care assistance.

  • Dental Assistant For Survivors of the Holocaust - providing pro-bono dental care to survivors who cannot afford it.

  • Café Europa* - Jewish Family & Children's Services of Northern New Jersey offers Cafe Europa, a special monthly luncheon where Holocaust survivors meet and develop warm, supportive friendships. A kosher lunch is provided, as well as entertainment, such as guest speakers and musical performances.

  • Shabbat Meals - Through an anonymous donation, JFCS provides a weekly Shabbat meal to our most frail, homebound elderly Holocaust survivors delivered by a Friendly Visitor.

As people age their health, psychosocial and/or safety concerns often become paramount.  Children and other family members may find themselves trying to make important decisions in a crisis.  This can be overwhelming for those living alone or for those caring for aging parents.  The JFCS Senior Service staff are highly trained professionals who compassionately assist families coping with these issues.
